Fort Arabesque Resort

1991-96 | Baia di Makadi, Hurganda, Egypt

Fort Arabesque Resort is located approximately 27 km south of the city of Hurgada and overlooks Makadi Bay, one of the most beautiful bays on the Red Sea. The complex was conceived as a fortified city, protected from the desert wind by a wall clad in Nubian sandstone, and open, with a stepped section, towards the sea. In this way, all the rooms open onto terraces overlooking the gardens, the pools and the bay. The complex is based on a plan formed by the broken sections interspersed with the stairwell towers defining the various wings, which wrap around the gardens and pools. In an almost central position is the entrance building, which contains the reception, common areas, restaurants and the main guest services. The architectural choices are based on the reinterpretation of some typical features of local architecture in a contemporary key. The project, which constitutes a first phase followed by subsequent expansions, involved the construction of approximately170 rooms and suites.
